A pregnant mother recently sent an email to CoorDown, Italy’s national organization for people with Down syndrome. The future mom had learned her unborn son had the genetic disorder, and she was scared.
“What kind of life will my child have?” she asked.
Saatchi & Saatchi Italy took that email as the starting point for this wonderful new ad for World Down Syndrome Day, in which 15 people with Down syndrome respond to the future mom, giving her a better idea of what to expect—the joys and the challenges—when her son arrives.
This is Saatchi’s third year of working with CoorDown. Its last two campaigns won 11 Lions at Cannes for the agency. This year’s theme for World Down Syndrome Day, on March 21, is the right to happiness and well-being for people with Down syndrome. The goal is to promote a culture of diversity and integration in society, especially at school and work.
“Everyone has the right to be happy,” says the new spot’s on-screen tagline.

One way to use HireMyCare.org is to run a search to find a caregiver near you, but did you know you can also simply create a job posting and let employees come to you?
It’s that easy. Just log in and click the green “Post a Job” button to get started.
Why Should I create a Job posting to find a caregiver instead of running a caregiver search?
You can do both! But here’s why posting a job is a great way to find caregivers:
- You can create different postings for the different types of care needs you may have. Need transportation to the doctor’s office and also someone to help with your personal care? Create 2 distinct job postings and let employees decide which one best suits their skills and availability.
- A job posting works for you 24/7. HireMyCare.org is still growing, so you may not find what you’re looking for right away when running a search. You may have to return to the site several times as more caregivers in your area sign up. Why not post a job once, and let caregivers search for you? You’ll receive an email alert if someone has responded to your job opening.
- You can close out the posting when you have filled the position, and reopen the same one if you need to fill it again in the future. Sometimes it’s hard to find a caregiver that will stay with you for a long period of time. Many Care Seekers find that they must re-hire for the position several times each year. When you create a job, you can close it out when you have the position filled or re-activate it if you need to replace your caregiver, then modify the posting and re-activate it if your caregiving needs or scheduling needs have changed.
- Like a search, you can tailor your posting and indicate your preferences on 20 different criteria so that caregivers know just what you’re looking for. If you don’t have strong preferences or requirements on some of the criteria, such as caregiver education or experience for example, leave those sections blank so caregivers know you are open and willing to train them to do the job.

We’d also like to take a moment to recognize the many, many people in the United States who care for a loved one in their home or other location. A recent study by Johns Hopkins shows that caregiving can lead to a long, healthier life for the caregiver as well as the person receiving the care.
Contradicting long-standing conventional wisdom, results of a Johns Hopkins-led analysis of data previously gathered on more than 3,000 family caregivers suggests that those who assist a chronically ill or disabled family member enjoy an 18 percent survival advantage compared to statistically matched non-caregivers.
In a report, published in the current online version of theAmerican Journal of Epidemiology, researchers found that providing care for a chronically ill or disabled family member not only fails to increase health risk, but also is associated with a nine-month extension in life expectancy over the six-year period of the study.
“If highly stressful situations can be avoided or managed effectively, caregiving may actually offer some health benefits for both the care recipients and the caregivers, including reduced risk of death for those providing care,” Roth said. “Negative public health and media portrayals of the risk of family caregiving may do a disservice by portraying caregiving as dangerous, and could potentially deter family members from taking on what can be a very satisfying and healthy family role. Public discussions of caregiving should more accurately balance the potential risks and gains of this universal family role.”
